What does EarthSave do?

EarthSave continues the educational work that Diet for a New Americabegan. EarthSave educates, inspires and empowers people to shift toward a plant based diet centered on fruits, vegetables, grains and legumes - foods that are healthy for people and the planet.

How does EarthSave receive funding?

Funding is received through memberships, contributions from foundations, corporations and private individuals.

Why might someone become an EarthSave member?

The animal foods industry spends billions of dollars per year trying to convince people that meat and dairy foods are part of a well-balanced diet. Each EarthSave membership sends a strong message to those industries that factual food information is more powerful than advertisement fallacies. As our membership increases through our local EarthSave chapters, networks form that support others who also demand healthier food choices.

Do I need to eat a vegetarian diet to join?

Definitely not. EarthSave accepts you wherever you are on the food-choice continuum. In fact, we prefer to talk about eating a more plant-based diet and not to label anyone "a vegetarian." We provide education, support and encouragement to move TOWARD a plant-based diet. Remember, if everyone reduced their animal-food consumption by just 10 percent, the grain we saved could be used to feed the hungry of the world.

EarthSave understands and respects that individuals make daily food choices due to a number of factors. These factors include social and cultural expectations, convenience, choices prepared in the home or school, mass advertising, peer pressure, and family demands. EarthSave's mission is to provide cutting edge, factual information and allow you to decide what is best for you in your unique circumstance. If you need help as you transition to healthier, plant-based foods, EarthSave is there to provide support and encouragement.

What kind of educational materials do you have?

Our educational series includes pamphlets about eating for optimal nutrition, making the transition to healthy food choices, and children and a vegetarian diet.

What are local EarthSave chapters?

Local EarthSave chapters take the organization's message to the local community. There are almost 40 volunteer-run chapters throughout the United States. They support local people interested in changing their diets by providing educational materials, holding activities such as monthly pot lucks, video showings and special events.

What's the difference between vegetarian and vegan diets? A vegetarian diet excludes the flesh of animals, even fish and poultry. A vegan diet excludes anything derived from an animal, including milk, cheese, eggs, and sometimes honey. People calling themselves vegan try to avoid animal products in their daily life, such as leather, wool or silk. For more information about the adoption of a plant-based diet, see our Links of Interest page.
